Deb Dyer is a mixed media artist who lives and works in Richmond, California. She reached out to me to set up a website for her to display and sell her pieces of art, which utilize maps, collage, stitching, stenciling and artists’ books. After the initial meeting with the client I learned that she didn’t have any branding in place, so in addition to the website I helped create branding elements for Deb including a primary and secondary logo, typography styles and a color palette that was inspired by her many pieces of artwork.
Once branding was in place I optimized the photos for the web by resizing, reformatting and renaming the images. This was important to enhance the websites performance and SEO.
The main objective for the website was for customers to be able to view the artists’ portfolio and to be able to reach out to her about purchasing any of the pieces on the website. Currently the only way people were seeing her artwork was from her Instagram page, which didn’t allow for prospective buyers to see the vast amount of details in each one of art pieces.
Deb works with three different mediums: books, collages and maps so we decided the best way was to give each of those mediums their own galleries. Once in the galleries, visitors can see a cropped image of the piece and when you hover, the name of the artwork appears. If you click on a piece, you’re then taken to a dedicated page of the art piece, that shows you the piece in its entirety, as well as several cropped, detailed shots of the artwork that allow you to see just how much detail and precision goes in to each piece. The footer to each and every page is a prompt that takes you to the ‘Purchase Art’ page that allows you to reach out to Deb about purchasing a piece of art, as well as links to the other mediums main web pages to keep the visitor engaged.
